形容地理位置时，英文常见用词包括：lie、sit、stand、be located、be situated。这些词都有「位于、坐落于」的意思。其中，又可区分为主动及被动语态两种表达：

如果主词是「人」，lie、sit、stand 可以用来表达「躺、坐、站」等不同姿势。但如果前面是「物」，lie、sit、stand 则有「位于、坐落于」的意思。

● 基本句型：主词 + lie / sit / stand + 地方副词

Lie、sit、stand 后面不直接加上受词，而会加上地方副词，也就是「介系词 + 地方」。例如：

That small town sits 60 miles to the east of us.(那个小镇位于我们东边六十英里处。)

搭配「表方位相对位置」的介系词 to，以及地方 the east of us「我们东边」。

● 倒装句型：地方副词 + lie / sit / stand + 主词

除了基本句型，不少英文文章为了让句型更加优美，会使用地方副词放句首的倒装句型。例如：

On the hillside stand rows of ramshackle redbrick buildings.(山腰上伫立着几排摇摇欲坠的红砖建筑。)

要注意的是：lie、sit、stand 会「跟着后面的主词」进行变化，所以这句的 stand 要跟着后面的复数主词 rows of ramshackle redbrick buildings，使用复数动词形式。

● 细微差异

表示「位于、坐落于」的时候，lie、sit、stand 等词通常可以互用，但如果明显是较平面的事物，象是河流，较常用 lie。例如：
